Matt is a US Army infantry veteran with combat tours to Iraq in 2009 and 2011. After the Army, he served as a TDCJ correctional officer before joining the San Antonio Police Department as a law enforcement officer.

During his time as a patrolman, Matt served as a district officer and field training officer. With a passion for firearms and to help increase the competence of fellow patrol officers, Matt started an informal range group with a focus on practical readiness drills. This group grew and developed into both advanced range work and active shooter training with the support of multiple San Antonio area schools.

Now serving as a Detective for the city and with a desire to make training a full-time second career, Matt has developed the Detonics curriculum. The firearms and tactics taught here are based on both his experience and numerous ongoing professional development courses. 17 years of firearms and tactics experience are brought together to offer both basic citizen self-defense and patrol-oriented police training.
